Mission Automotive: Spotlight on Stellantis

Stellantis UK , a key player in the global automotive industry, has shown a strong commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community through its comprehensive Armed Forces Engagement Programme. In 2021, the company reaffirmed this dedication by signing the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging to provide meaningful opportunities for service personnel, veterans, and their families (Stellantis, 2021). This commitment was further recognised in 2023 when Stellantis UK was awarded Gold in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, reflecting its sustained efforts in supporting military personnel as they transition into civilian employment (Stellantis, 2023).

A crucial aspect of Stellantis’ programme is its free training initiatives delivered through the Stellantis Performance Academy. These courses, available to Service Leavers, Veterans, and their families, span multiple automotive sectors, including Technician roles in Service & Maintenance, Diagnostics, and Master/Consultant levels, as well as Aftersales Service, Customer Advisor, and Operational Management for both Sales and Aftersales. With flexible learning options such as online modules and in-person sessions, the programme ensures accessibility and practical skill development for all participants.

Beyond training, Stellantis UK has implemented a structured end-to-end mentorship programme that provides career guidance tailored to individual aspirations. This includes support with CV writing, job applications, interview preparation, and work placements. Importantly, the programme extends beyond the hiring phase, with continuous mentorship for the first 12 months of employment, ensuring a smooth transition into the automotive industry.

The impact of this initiative is exemplified by individuals such as Heather Arthur, a former Electronics Technician in the British Army. Heather successfully transitioned into the automotive sector through Stellantis’ programme and now thrives in her role at Penton Motor Group. Her journey showcases the tangible benefits of dedicated corporate support for veterans, demonstrating how skills acquired in the military can seamlessly transfer into the automotive industry.
