Welcome to the Community of Communities
Mission Community- Championing the Armed Forces in UK Society- is the nation’s mechanism for delivering ‘Sector Initiatives’; Armed Forces engagement campaigns linked to a UK industry body or trade association.
Sector initiatives promote and share best practice, harness exemplars and help companies to access and retain Veteran talent, changing behaviours in the workplace, whilst empowering industry. They make the commercial and social value case for Armed Forces community engagement and use the industry bodies as champions for that cause. They reinforce and connect government and third sector support, promoting and rewarding collaboration.
In this way, sustainable and relevant employment opportunities for Service Leavers, Veterans, Reservists, and their families are generated, and an enduring Armed Forces’ ‘community of communities’ is created.
Our heritage
Mission Community’s roots are within Mission Motorsport- The Forces’ Motorsport Charity, a charity founded by Army Veteran James Cameron, who since 2012, have been helping those affected by military operations by engagement through motorsport. A Service Charity and a member of the Confederation of Service Charities, Mission Motorsport has an award-winning collaborative model of working with government and the other service charities.
In 2019 they launched the first sector initiative Mission Automotive as the Armed Forces engagement initiative for the UK automotive industry in partnership with The Royal Foundation and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and with the support of the Ministry of Defence. In 2021 this model was replicated for the renewable energy sector, with the establishment of Mission Renewable. Both initiatives continue to positively influence their respective sectors today, promoting and uplifting armed forces communities in vibrant and relevant industries.
The future
In 2023, the Veterans’ Minister saw the impact of our work at the National Transition Event (NTE). Held annually at Silverstone, NTE is the community coming-together where the respective missions are showcased to the Armed Forces community. On 12th April 2024, the then Prime Minister announced to the nation that Mission Community’s sector initiatives will spearhead OP PROSPER.
The award of a grant through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, enables Mission Community bring a proven, tested best practice sharing framework to other sectors. We now look forward to working with other industry bodies, trade associations and exemplars to help make the UK the best place to be a Veteran - and to help UK industry to uplift and harness a national strategic asset - our Armed Forces communities.
We call our approach 'the community of communities.'
